A multi-functional coffee table, whose designer first sketched the piece when he was a student.
The judges said this was an example of simple, attractive design, a smart piece of furniture that forms two low tables that then embrace each other to form a storage unit.
Apart, the pieces function as whatever you fancy – sledge, tea tray, seat, kids desk, an extremely versatile and innovative product.

Some design highlights include:

• Being made in the UK from sustainably sourced timbers. Each unit is numbered, stamped and signed.
• The design can be made from bent plywood, birch, oak and walnut.
• It costs £249 and is a modern take on the Penguin Donkey, a 1939 design classic by Egon Riss..

Senso Collection by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez for I-Radium

A range of revolutionary heating products that look nothing like your average radiator and work differently, too.  The pieces heat rooms via infared technology and are finished in wood so they look as good as they heat.
The judges reckoned this was ‘a hit on many levels’ and an interesting development in heating design. They can be used in all areas of your home. Pretty cool for a range of heaters we thought.

Some design highlights include:

• Infrared technology which heats a room faster that a convectional system and keeps the temperature low, saving energy.
• Innovative design bringing heat to unusual items: an infrared mirror and shelf; portable pieces, infrared towel holders and shelving units. So they look like pieces of furniture, rather than heating units.
• A complementary range of portable models allows so-called ‘nomadic’ or ‘occasional’ heating in the exact zone in which it is required.
• The first ever shower enclosure/heater combined
• Price - £400 - £2000 (depending on item)
